HS Has Taught Me:
“The biggest lesson HS has ever taught me is don’t be embarrassed by your body, if people don’t like it that’s their problem not mine.”
A Day in the Life: My Battle with HS.
A bad day for me with my HS is not being able to move, struggling with getting out of bed because just a slight movement sends shooting sharp pains across wherever the flare ups maybe. Under my arms, boobs or across my stomach. Having to sit with hot water bottles on random parts of my body whilst trying work and not think about the pain. I have constant worries about my clothes, from whether they are going to rub down to am I going to leak and ruin them! It’s a constant battle.
The Unseen Battle: The War in My Head
At the start I wouldn’t speak about my condition, no one knew and I was embarrassed and ashamed by my own body. I got so down and depressed, thinking that no one would ever love me or my body with this condition. Since about a year ago I told some close friends about and their reactions weren’t what I was thinking, I was expecting repulsion and to be mocked. That didn’t happen, I was greeted by love and support to do more for myself and to seek out more answers. Which has lead me to gain more professional help with my condition. I do still get down and even only a couple of weeks ago, my flares really got me hard and I fell back into a hole but this time it was quicker to bring myself back out because I have more support around me than ever before.
My Moment of Strength: A Time I ‘Won’
I had complete remission for about a year! No flare ups, no idea why or how but I thought I had beaten it! I was so excited no pain no oozing no new scars (only old ones). For that time I made sure I did as much as I could went on adventures and I felt a little bit free! When you get the times where your body doesn’t hurt and there are no flare ups and you have energy, you have to go out and do what makes you happy!
